NEWBORN Photography
IN THE VERY BEGINNING
The first days with your baby are filled with details you are only beginning to know—their delicate features, the way they curl against you, and how impossibly small they feel in your arms.
As a newborn photographer serving Lynchburg and Central Virginia, I create timeless, artful portraits that preserve both the beauty of your baby and the connection unfolding within your family. Each session is approached gently, allowing plenty of time for feeding, soothing, cuddling, and simply settling into the experience.
Whether your session takes place in my Forest studio or in the comfort of your home, my hope is that you feel cared for from beginning to end—and leave with photographs that become more meaningful as your baby grows.
THE ART OF NEW BEGINNINGS
Everything you need is waiting
You do not need to arrive with a perfectly sleeping baby, coordinated clothing, or a plan for how the session should unfold. I will guide you through every detail so your newborn portrait experience feels calm, personal, and easy.
Every newborn session includes:
A personal planning and styling consultation
Access to the studio wardrobe for mothers and babies
A curated collection of wraps, blankets, and simple accessories
Gentle, baby-led posing and careful attention to newborn safety
Portraits of your baby individually and with parents and siblings
Time for feeding, soothing, and settling whenever needed
A collection of carefully edited, high-resolution photographs
Optional professional hair and makeup for studio sessions
With nearly two decades of experience photographing newborns and growing families, I understand that no two babies—or postpartum seasons—are exactly alike. Your session will never be rushed or forced. My role is to care for your family, follow your baby’s cues, and create photographs that feel beautiful, honest, and entirely your own.
Kind Words
“Working with Liz for newborn photos was such a pleasure! She is thoughtful, caring, and attentive to detail. We had special items we wanted to incorporate into our pictures, and she so thoughtfully brought our vision to life. Both she and her studio are warm, welcoming, and inviting. We will treasure our beautiful pictures forever!”
Frequently Asked Questions
-
I recommend reserving your newborn experience during your second trimester. Your due date will serve as a placeholder on my calendar, and we will confirm the session date after your baby arrives.
Booking during pregnancy provides the best availability and gives us plenty of time to plan your wardrobe, setting, and any professional hair and makeup services you would like to include.
-
Newborn sessions are generally photographed during the first few weeks after birth, when babies are still especially sleepy and naturally curled. However, babies do not become “too old” for meaningful newborn photographs after a particular number of days.
If your baby has already arrived, please reach out. I will create a session suited to your baby’s age, temperament, and needs.
-
Sessions may take place in my fully equipped studio in Forest, Virginia, or in your family’s home. The studio provides access to the complete client wardrobe and newborn collection, while an in-home session offers a relaxed, documentary approach within your own surroundings.
I will help you determine which setting best fits the photographs you want to create.
-
Absolutely. Your baby is joining a family, and those relationships are an essential part of the story. Newborn sessions include time for photographs with parents and siblings as well as portraits of your baby individually.
-
Most clients do at first. You will receive gentle direction throughout your session, from the placement of your hands to the smallest adjustments in posture. Nothing is left for you to figure out alone.
-
Very little. The studio includes wraps, blankets, simple accessories, wardrobe pieces, and many of the necessities families commonly need during a newborn session.
Before your appointment, you will receive thoughtful preparation and wardrobe guidance so you know exactly what to bring—and what can remain at home.
-
That is completely expected. Newborn sessions allow time for feeding, changing, soothing, and cuddling. I follow your baby’s cues throughout the experience rather than expecting your baby to follow a rigid schedule.
Nothing has gone wrong when your baby needs you. Those pauses are part of caring for your baby well.
