Now offering Birth Sessions

It's no secret how passionate I am about birth and the time period (that seems frozen for women living in it) surrounding birth. I am a part of the leadership team of a local non-profit, The Motherhood Collective, which greatly nurtures this passion of mine. Our target niche is a small one: women in the short (yet, oh so long) season between hoping-to-be-expecting and the postpartum period. My favorite group to connect with are mamas with growing bellies who are educating themselves about their birth options and planning for the future of their precious babe. I could talk birth for hours.

This is why, for so long, I have cautiously (but not quietly) dabbled into the world of birth photography.

Tommy is surprisingly appreciative of the whole concept of pregnancy, birth, and new babies. He's kind of in awe over the miracle of the whole thing and this translates really well when I say to him (because I've said it 23354 times) "I'd really love to find a way to be on call for 24/7, a month at a time, to drop whatever I'm doing and go photograph a new baby entering the world."

The birth industry is a crazy industry, a demanding one, that takes sacrifice of not just the business owner (photographer, midwife, OB, or doula, the list goes on), but the families and even friends of said professionals. I've gone back and forth for years, really. I travel a lot during wedding season and my brides come first (after my husband and daughter, of course), so being a birth photographer while shooting weddings just didn't seem feasible.

Plus... it just seems weird to say "I'm a wedding photographer and a birth photographer." Instead of "I'm a birth, baby, and family photographer." I felt like the two just... didn't fit. Weddings. Births. Where is the correlation?

Well. I decided it doesn't matter anymore. It fits for me! They are both my passions: they both involve photographing LOVE, emotions, JOY, and moments that can't be relived. The artist in me longs to capture such intimate and intense moments, candidly, and beautifully.

So, I found a way to make it happen. I have built a team, because I could NOT do this without on-call childcare, an accepting husband, and relationships with other birthing professionals in the area. Because of this, I am really, really excited to share that I am officially booking births for the period of January 2014 - March 2014.

Of course every launch deserves a special offer!! The first 5 mamas who book a birth session with me will receive 75% off of the birth session fee. For more information check out The Birth Session investment page!!

I'd SO appreciate all my mama friends sharing this info with anyone they know who is expecting a baby - or hoping to be expecting sometime soon!
