3 Tips for Your Best Santa Pictures

Are you planning to take your children for Santa pictures in the Lynchburg, VA area in 2019? We LOVE Santa pictures and after three years of hosting Santa Claus in our studio, we have a few tricks up our sleeve to help guarantee that you love the outcome of your experience!

Unfortunately, the truth is that sometimes having pictures with Santa can feel stressful and chaotic instead of magical. But there are a few things you can do to prepare for the best experience possible.

Below are our top 3 tips to get your best Santa pictures in 2019!

  1. Bring props or books along with you.

A security toy (stuffed animal, Christmas book) or a small, mess-free snack is a great way to give your child a small distraction if they struggle with anxiety around strangers (or jolly men in a red, fluffy suit!). Our favorite snack is a little Christmas mug with tiny (white) marshmallows. They are mess-free and theme-friendly! We don’t always recommend comfort-eating, but once a year can’t hurt anyone, right?! ;-)

  2. Don’t let your child see other upset children with Santa.

If they see other children are stressed or unhappy, they will take that as a cue and very likely respond the same way. A good way to avoid this is to plan to visit with Santa when the location is quiet (for example; at a mall, go during their least-busy hours) or, of course, you can book a session with us where you will have the entire studio to yourselves for your whole experience!

  3. Prepare yourself to be in the pictures as a back-up plan.

Sometimes children aren’t able to calm down around Santa without the help of a trusted adult. Our sessions allow ample time for most children to calm down, but on a rare occasion an adult needs to sit in on the session. However, if you visit a Santa in a public place, it is unlikely that there will be enough time to allow your child to calm down and get comfortable with the jolly man. In this case, you may need to be photographed and one way to guarantee you will be happy with your final photos is to arrive photo-ready yourself.

We hope you will keep these tips in mind as you plan for a successful visit with Santa Claus in the Lynchburg, VA, Roanoke, VA or Charlottesville, VA areas this coming holiday season. Would you add anything to this list? If so, we would love to hear your tips! Please share in the comments!
