Tell Me More: The Tangible Experience

Tell Me More: The Tangible Experience

I love my work. Each session I shoot on is thoughtfully and intentionally designed to capture personalities and relationship dynamics. But, more than anything, I hope that the images I create for my clients capture the irreplaceable and unique moments of their lives together. Whether I am photographing a brand new baby, or a brand new marriage, I work hard to create images that will be cherished for generations. Like literal generations.

2016 Fall Picture Opportunities in Lynchburg, Virginia

Oh my goodness! SO many things have happened since we put our house on the market this summer! We MOVED... to a lovely house in the woods... to the serene, quiet space... in the land of... NO INTERNET.

Yeah, it sounds all romantic until you try and run a business from a place where you have no internet access! It's been challenging, to say the least!

But my days are full and I've had so many incredible, patient, and understanding clients! I have photographed many beautiful events: births, weddings, even a secret elopement! I have captured the personalities of the cutest little bebes as they grow and explore their world. I've played in new fields and explored the light with my camera on this new side of town.

In between shooting and editing, I'd found time to actually cook dinner for my family (maybe it's the lack of internet/distractions that has allowed me to suddenly have the time to cook! ha!), enjoy walks in the woods with my girls, paint, decorate, and put our things away in many of the rooms in our new home... and have lots of play time in the new studio!

But... it's been long enough. This blog has been far too quiet. There are a lot of things happening here in the studio in the next few months and I want to make sure you have all the details!

So, here's what is coming up:

OH my goodness - I am SO excited about the new Santa Experience I am offering this year!!!

Imagine no line... quiet, personal time with Santa... and professional, high-quality pictures you KNOW you will love! Experience the wonder of Christmas through your child's eyes as I capture their first glimpse of Santa and keep snapping away as they sit on his lap and enjoy sharing their Christmas wishes with him.

This is the First Annual Santa Experience and THE best Santa experience in town! There are limited seats, so be sure to grab your spot ASAP!

I will be back soon to show off some of the beautiful faces and love stories I've had the honor of photographing recently. For now, here's a little preview!!

A Relaxed Maternity Session | Lynchburg Baby Photographer

A Relaxed Maternity Session | Lynchburg Baby Photographer

It could be the beautiful model, the all-white room, or the understated dress she is wearing... or maybe it was simply the enthusiasm in the air that surrounded this whole experience... but this maternity session photographed at The Fount Workshop is, hands down, one of my favorites I have ever photographed. Watching Abany Bauer style this session left me so inspired and gave me more tools to use when approaching my own work, which I've already started to use.

The Fount Workshop Review

Last week, I spent 3 days with an incredible team of artists at the beautiful Serenbe, right outside of Atlanta, being inspired, catered to, and coached. The Fount Workshop was a photographer's dream getaway (honestly, Tiffany Farley confessed it was based on her idea of a dream workshop) and I am so very glad I made the investment to attend

Fifteen other motherhood photographers and I spent our time together observing while professional stylists and photographers collaborated to bring their visions to life. Between each of the five separate styled shoots, we also had the opportunity to learn that business money management isn't so bad from the very knowledgable (and sought-after) Shanna Skidmore. In addition, we gained valuable insight into the creative process of photographers as artists. This workshop leaned more towards relaxation, inspiration and encouragement to consider yourself an artisan versus equipping and training on the business and marketing side of things. Athlough, there truly was a bit of everything thrown in. I knew ahead of time that this workshop would be different. And in my case, different was oh-so-very good.

It is easy to lose a bit of your artist self when you have to approach your work from a business standpoint. Balancing numbers and customer service is a quick way to help you forget why you started doing this work in the first place. The Fount Workshop took me back to the heart of why I do what I do. The team embraced the differences of each attendee and encouraged us to continue being true to our own voice. They shared practical tools we can use to bring us back to the heartbeat of our work again and again.

Some of my biggest takeaways were:

  • Rest is best... sometimes you have to take a step back and regroup in order to continue producing your best work.
  • I'll be painting my studio walls white... not grey.
  • I'm going to beg my husband to let me also stain my studio floors white (ha!).
  • Journaling is truly all it is cracked up to be.
  • Client experience really does go a long way... (not that I ever doubted)... and I will be adding even more elements to the experience I offer my clients in the very near future.
  • More session styling also coming to the Liz Cook Photography studio in the very near future.
  • I've also already purchased a few more pieces for my client wardrobe as well.

Below are some of my favorite behind the scenes images from our time together. In the coming days I will be sharing images from each of the styled shoots we worked on. And also... this blog is coming back to life! :)

Doesn't it look heavenly? It really was. If you are looking for a workshop that will renew your artisan spirit, encourage you to keep being true to yourself, and equip you to reach your goals, I highly recommend The Fount Workshop. Tiffany, Rylee and Abany are skilled in their crafts and are passionate about encouraging other artists to find their why. This was the perfect blend of a momtog getaway and an inspiring retreat, with sprinkles of business wisdom on top. :)

I am so grateful I made the investment to attend... and I totally plan to attend again in the future!
