This sweet family welcomed their baby girl and invited me into their home to document this exciting season of life. Their daughter was a little older than many newborns I photograph—around six weeks old—but she was absolutely perfect for an in-home session. One of the things I love about lifestyle newborn photography is that there is flexibility. Whether your baby is one week old or several weeks old, we can still create beautiful, timeless images.
Before the session, we scheduled a virtual pre-session consultation where we talked through wardrobe choices, locations within the home, and how to make the experience as stress-free and calm as possible. Mom selected a couple of favorite dresses and I brought them all with me along with multiple baby wraps, headbands, and blankets. Then once mom was able to see the dresses in-person, she chose this beautiful option, which photographed beautifully and coordinated perfectly with the soft, neutral colors throughout their home.
I love that they didn't have to worry about purchasing or preparing anything themselves. My goal is always to make the process easy and stress-free for busy moms.
One thing that made this session especially memorable was the weather. We had a snowy week in Central Virginia, and after arriving, I managed to get my van stuck in their driveway. Instead of letting me tackle it alone, Dad spent nearly 30 minutes helping me dig it out.
I truly cannot thank this family enough for their kindness and generosity. They were such wonderful hosts, and I was so grateful for their help.
Once we got started, the session flowed beautifully. We photographed in both the master bedroom and the nursery, taking advantage of the gorgeous natural light available in each space. Many moms worry that their home won't work for newborn photos, but one of the first things I do when I arrive is walk through the house and identify the areas with the best lighting.
My job is to find the best light, guide your family through natural interactions, and create images that feel authentic to your family. I also take care of removing distracting details both in the space and during the editing process, helping your final gallery feel clean, timeless, and polished.
Because lifestyle newborn photography focuses on connection rather than complicated posing, sessions tend to move quickly and naturally. One of my favorite parts of this session was watching big brother interact with his new baby sister. He was incredibly sweet and gentle with her throughout the session.
